Minnesota Orchestra

The girls and I went and heard the Minnesota Orchestra at Lakefront Park. The music was wonderful as well as the weather. This was the first time that they had heard an orchestra. They enjoyed hearing the music and recognizing the songs from Little Einstein's and Super Man. We went with Aunt Karla and Katie. It was quite the walk up the hill. We don't use the stroller very much and tonight was a great example of why...or maybe mommy just needs to get back into shape!
They are starting to feel better however Abbey is having a tough time still eating. She eats very little as her mouth still hurts. Ashley is a power eater and doesn't ever let anything bother her.
Our friends Ken and Tina Schlorf left today to become missionaries in Haiti. Ken and Tina, along with their two children, Kayla and Carter, left this morning. They are adopting a little boy from Haiti, Lou, and hope that by tomorrow they will be able to pick him up and start their new life as a family. If anyone is interested in their story I will post their blog. They are asking for prayers for their family as they start this new journey.

Birthday parties and more

Today was the last of the girls birthday party celebration. On Thursday, they had some of their preschool friends, the neighborhood and church come to the park to celebrate their birthday. They were very blessed to have received many wonderful gifts. It was a lot of fun to see their preschool teacher and her daughters.
That night Ashley started to come down with something. On Friday she basically had a fever all day. The highest the temp got was 103. She was just miserable. I looked into her throat and her tonsils were large and she had some spots in her mouth. Then I looked in Abbey's mouth because she said her mouth had a sore and there were tons of red dots all over her mouth. By Friday night Abbey was also running a low grade fever. On Saturday morning, Abbey was showing signs of pussy spots now. We decided to take them both into Urgent Care. They have foot and mouth disease! YUKE. Poor babies...It's a viral infection so they cannot give them anything and it's not a easy viral infection to have. It will be painful. So we got home and just took it easy. Shannon and Abbey fell asleep on the couch for a few hours. They haven't slept on the couch together for a long time.
While we were coming home from the clinic, we called and spoke to the family members that were suppose to be coming over on Sunday to see if they still wanted to come over. Since the girls were contagious up until their fever broke (which was on Sat) they weren't contagious anymore. We wanted to make sure that everyone knew what was going on and left it all up to them. Everyone said yes.
So while Abbey and Shannon slept, I worked on the girls special birthday cake-Strawberry Shortcake. Ashley played and then came and watched me. I had to make two of the cakes since I broke the first one. Ashley had to tell Shannon that one, so while he was sleeping on the couch, she ran over to the couch and told him to quit snoring because I broke the cake. It was very funny.
On Sunday we had great weather and great company. Abbey was really having a tough time. Some of her blisters popped and her tongue is covered in white spots, etc. She is having a hard time eating. Ashley was doing much better. Both girls have the spots/blisters all over their bodies.
Mommy and daddy are exhausted but we loved celebrating with the girls. Ashley kept asking when more friends were coming. She didn't want us to take down any of their decorations. They are excited because they received their big girl bikes for their birthday.

June 23, 2008

Today the girls had their little neighbors over and played out in the pool. It's so refreshing to see the girls outside and enjoying the simplicity of life. They have no worries and are care free. I only wish that we could enjoy that life. As adults, we have too many worries and it takes away from our ability to enjoy the moment.

Our Family Blog

I have created this blog for a number of reasons. Mostly I have created this so we can share our lives, activities with you our family and friends.

Today was a fun day for us. We went to the state park and walked out to the waterfalls. It was a hike. We had a very long walk down a very very steep hill. Going down was the easy part, it was the coming up that was hard. It was so beautiful so it was worth it. Walking through the "jungle" as the girls put it, reminded us how lucky we are to be able to enjoy the many splendors of our world.
