Today my dad would have turned 74. I remember my dad with many fond memories filled with laughter, love, caring, sharing and most of all friendship. To say that I was a "daddy's girl" is putting it mildly. I loved hanging out with him most of the time (okay when he would embarrass me then no, I didn't like that) and really miss talking to him. I was able to share many things with my dad and really leaned on him through a lot of my growing up years. That is something that I miss more than anything. His jokes, not always appropriate, his sense of humor...he could always bring a smile to my face.
This is a poem that I wrote after hearing the words come to me in my dreams. I am not a poet but I thought it turned out nicely.
Happy Birthday Daddy. I miss you and love you.
Memories of you.
A little girl holding your hand,
A young lady dancing in your arms,
All I have left are memories of you.
The bright blue sky on a warm sunny day,
The sound of voices and the feel of the ball,
All I have left are memories of you.
The sound of your voice full of advice,
The sound of laughter and love fill the air.
All I have left are memories of you.
A heart full love and pride,
A body filled with disease,
All I have left are memories of you.
My hero to me you’ll always be
Daddy’s little girl I will forever be.
Now all I have left are memories of you.
I love you and miss you daddy!
